The Transformation of Trauma
“Because
traumatic events are often encounters with death, they evoke
extraordinary responses. The transformation process can allow people to
deepen their sense of self and others. The healing journey can be an
awakening to untapped resources and feelings of empowerment.”
-Dr.
Peter Levine
This workshop/group is for individuals who are currently
working with a psychotherapist and have experiences of shock trauma or
developmental trauma in their background.
*Read The Sacred Journey
1and Biographical information for description of the process.
The pace of this group will be
slower, gentler and more contained, and will allow time for individuals
to receive assistance on specific issues.
The emphasis will be on the
transformation of trauma:
-The re-negotiation of
trauma; moving out of the traumatic experience into a resourced state.
-The gifts we receive;
spiritually, physically and emotionally as we move through the trauma
into greater resource.
Somatic
Experiencing (S.E.) is a method of re-negotiating and healing
trauma developed by Dr. Peter Levine. This is the core technique used in
my work with shock/trauma. S.E. is a well researched and very effective
model which uses our innate, instinctual, biological, self-regulating
mechanisms to return to a normal state after a traumatic or life
threatening experience. The structure of trauma, including
hyper-arousal, dissociation, and freezing, is based on the evolution of
animal survival behaviors. Symptoms of trauma are the result of a highly
activated, incomplete biological response to threat, frozen in time. By
enabling this frozen response to thaw, then complete itself, trauma can
be healed. S.E. employs the awareness of body sensation to help people
renegotiate and heal their trauma using appropriate guidance into the
bodies instinctive, “felt” sense.
